Roaming is the paid service, provided by DIGI, that lets you use your mobile device (phone, tablet or laptop) abroad to:

• Make and receive voice calls
• Send and receive text messages (SMS)
• Use the internet
• Access other features associated with this service

International calls are the calls that, when you are in Portugal, you make to numbers in other countries or that are made to you from abroad (from a mobile or fixed device).

International roaming calls and international calls have different prices and different rules.

When you arrive in the country of destination, you will receive free messages with basic personalised information about the roaming rates (including VAT) that apply to your international roaming calls.

In the case of roaming between countries of the European Economic Area (EEA), the price of your roaming calls cannot exceed the rates you pay for your national calls (in the case of calls, SMS and internet access, the roaming price must not exceed the price you pay for the calls you make in Portugal to other national networks).

If you have signed up for a national plan whose monthly fee includes a given volume of free calls or SMS, the roaming traffic will be deducted from that same volume.

All mobile operators may apply the FUP to make sure the roaming service is not used abusively for purposes other than regular travel within the EEA.

To that end, we apply fair, reasonable and proportionate control mechanisms over the line's last four months to prevent that kind of abuse. If you spend more time and use roaming more in another EU country than in Portugal, we will send you an SMS 15 days before any extra charge to warn you about the situation.

If you keep spending more time abroad and using roaming more than in Portugal, you will receive a second SMS the day before, informing you that we may apply a surcharge.

You may have to pay for the calls you receive abroad in the case of calls received outside the European Economic Area (EEA).

Calls received in EEA countries and coming from the EEA are charged according to the plan you have signed up for.

While you are in a Zone 1 country of the European Union or in one of the available countries with an Internet service contract outside the EU, as soon as you connect to the network the Internet service will work automatically. Remember that you must have the mobile data and roaming option enabled on your phone.

You can set up the internet on your phone: go to the settings menu and add the following parameters to your phone's APN:

Access point name: Digi.mobil

APN: internet

Make sure you have the data service enabled, as well as data roaming enabled, so that the setup is complete.

The volume of data available for roaming in the EU/EEA is part of the data volume available in your national plan. The counting of the data used in roaming only starts when you enter roaming.

The volume of data you can use in roaming in the EU/EEA depends on the data you have already used in Portugal. For example: if you have an allowance of 50GB, of which 6GB are available for roaming, and you have already used 40GB in Portugal, when you enter roaming in the EU/EEA you still have the 6GB available for roaming. If, however, you have already used 47GB in Portugal, when you enter roaming in the EU/EEA you will only have 3GB available for roaming.
